Introducing the Qur'an

Qur'an Toolkit

The Qur'an is the word of God revealed to mankind through Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h.).
The Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h.) is therefore not the author, but a messenger, the last one, who recited accurately what was revealed to him by God through the angel Jibraeel (Gabriel) over a period of some 23 years.
According to the occasion, somtimes a complete chapter (sura) was revealed whilst at other times only one verse (aya) was revealed. The Qur'an comprises of 114 chapters (suwer).
The language in which the Qur'an was revealed is Arabic. It is written from right to left and the book opens in this direction.
As it is divine in origin; every letter and every word is sacred to Muslims. Even Muslims who cannot speak or understand Arabic will learn how to recite it and will memorise the opening chapter and many other short chapters which form part of the daily prayers.
The Qur'an is full of great thoughts and concepts that can sometimes be understood fully only upon studying the whole book. It is not only, history, science, prophecy or a code of life; rather it is a combination of all of these and more...
All Muslims throughout the world use the same Qur'an. There is no difference whatsoever amongst any of the publications.

HOW TO USE THE TOOLKIT RESOURCES

THE POSTER
1. The poster serves as an overview of the 114 chapters of the Qur'an with illustrations serving as a visual aid memoire for each chapter.
2. It can assist students to memorise the names of the 114 chapters in sequence using the Link memory system. For this we have divided the 114 names into 15 sections and thus you will find 'chairs' on the poster which denote the end of a mnemonic (memory aid). A comprehensive booklet explaining the system is available to order.

KEY CONCEPTS CARDS
1. Although there is no replacement for reading the Qur'an in its entirety, the cards outline the key concepts of each chapter which can serve as a starting point.
2. Key verses from each chapter are listed which relate to everyday living. The reference of the verses is written Sura:Aya (Chapter:Verse).
3, The cards are colour coded. The yellow background signifies that the chapter was revealed in Makka and the green background that it was revealed in Madina. The main message of the chapters revealed in Makka is belief in God and that the human being is accountable for his actions; whilst the chapters revealed in Madina present guidance in being able to manifest belief in God through personal and communal laws.
