Some parts of the sura were revealed before the Battle of Tabuk, some parts during the battle and other parts were revealed after it. It is the only sura of the Qur'an that does not begin with Bismillah. Bismillah is an indication of mercy and security, while this sura starts with the declaration of immunity towards those who oppose monotheism.
